Salute To Veterans Campaign Rally

Representative Dr. Ron Paul (R-TX) held a campaign rally with veterans on December 28, 2011 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, Iowa. His remarks were briefly disrupted by protesters. Following his remarks he had informal conversations with members of the audience.

“Ron Paul is one of the outstanding leaders fighting for a stronger national defense. As a former Air Force officer, he knows well the needs of our armed forces, and he always puts them first. We need to keep him fighting for our country.”
– Ronald Reagan

Veteran’s Benefits

“Many politicians talk about honoring our veterans and their sacrifices. Yet so often the rhetoric obscures the reality that the federal government treats veterans badly. Congress wastes billions of dollars on countless unconstitutional programs, but fails to provide adequately for the men and women who carry out the most important constitutional function: national defense.

Any nation willing to ask its men and women to risk their lives serving overseas must also be willing to fulfill the promises that were made to them when they enlisted in our country’s service. We cannot provide adequate care with a VA that is run like the IRS.”

As an Air Force veteran, Ron Paul has always worked to ensure that those who have served in the United States military get the care and services they have earned.

Dr. Paul believes those who sacrifice so much for their country should never have to worry about whether or not the government will uphold its promises.

As President, he would reform the VA to make sure it provides affordable care and benefits to our veterans. Dr. Paul believes that, by reducing the size and scope of government, we can make sure that Washington keeps its commitments to all present and future veterans.

Protecting our Troops Through Better Policy

In the wake of 9/11, Dr. Paul voted to authorize the use of force against Osama Bin Laden and others who committed that dreadful atrocity.

But sadly, just as our Constitution has been ignored by our elected officials more and more in recent years, our leaders have refused to heed the Founders’ advice against entangling alliances and foreign interventionism.

Today, hundreds of thousands of our fighting men and women are stretched thin all across the globe in over 135 countries.

And our current President doesn’t even bother to consult with Congress before engaging in military action overseas – like the recent outrage in Libya.

Instead of acting as the world’s policeman, Dr. Paul believes we should enact a constitutional foreign policy that would respect our Constitution, protect our troops, and strengthen our national defense.

And when the United States must go to war, Congress should declare war as the Constitution mandates. We should provide our military forces with all the tools they need to fight, win, and return home to their families and communities.

Ron Paul would stop engaging America in trillion-dollar, budget-draining foreign occupations or nation-building. And he would guarantee our troops aren’t used to fulfill the United Nations’ mandates.

Our men and women aren’t just toy soldiers to be sent in harm’s way on a whim. They are mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters who deserve to be treated properly by their own government.

Congressman Ron Paul of Texas enjoys a national reputation as the premier advocate for liberty in politics today. Dr. Paul is the leading spokesman in Washington for limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies based on commodity-backed currency. He is known among both his colleagues in Congress and his constituents for his consistent voting record in the House of Representatives: Dr. Paul never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution. In the words of former Treasury Secretary William Simon, Dr. Paul is the “one exception to the Gang of 535″ on Capitol Hill.

Ron Paul was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Gettysburg College and the Duke University School of Medicine, before proudly serving as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force during the 1960s. He and his wife Carol moved to Texas in 1968, where he began his medical practice in Brazoria County. As a specialist in obstetrics/gynecology, Dr. Paul has delivered more than 4,000 babies! He and Carol, who reside in Lake Jackson, Texas, are the proud parents of five children and have eighteen grandchildren.
