This program shows the effects of the Khmer Rouge policy of turning Cambodia into an iron age rural economy, the resulting mass murder, starvation, and disease; the unlikely role of communist Vietnam and the likely outcome of the Vietnamese Army’s departure: the reemergence of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge.
John Pilger acknowledges that Vietnam’s invasion of Cambodia has benefited the country to some degree, but he carefully notes the negative consequences that will occur once the Vietnamese army leaves.
